News: Three-vehicle collision on WB-470 injures multiple people

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO – Six people were injured in a three-vehicle collision on WB I-470 west of mile marker 15.2 on Saturday afternoon.

A 17-year-old female driver was traveling west on I-470 in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu when she rear-ended a 2015 Kia Optima, driven by 23-year-old Bernestaine A. Harkins, according to 92.3 radio news. The impact pushed the Kia into a 2018 Ford Edge, driven by 44-year-old Allison M. Lackey.

The teenage driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries, as did five other passengers in the vehicle. All injured parties were transported to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence. The injured passengers included an 11-year-old, 12-year-old, 14-year-old, 18-year-old Aleana R. Hernandez, and 19-year-old Kyla D. Calton.
Police report the injured teenage driver was not wearing a seat belt. It is unclear if anyone else was wearing a seat belt.
No other injuries were reported.
The Chevrolet was totaled and the Kia and Ford sustained minor damages.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
