News: 2 killed, 3 injured after Hwy 92 crash in Platte Co.

PLATTE COUNTY, MO –  Two people died in a crash on Highway 92 between Platte City and Smithville Sunday afternoon.

According to KMBC, the crash happened on the highway just east of B Highway as a driver in a minivan was traveling west. The driver hit the shoulder and overcorrected causing the vehicle to cross into the eastbound lanes and hit a Ford Edge.

The 37-year-old man driving the minivan was killed. A 14-year-old passenger was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children occupants in the minivan, a boy, 6, and a girl, 5, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Ford Edge, a 67-year-old woman, was also transported to the hospital.

Authorities say alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
