News: Mother and 11-year-old son killed in three-car crash

LYON COUNTY, KS – A woman and her son both died after a multi-vehicle crash near Emporia Sunday evening, reports The Kansas City Star.

The woman was driving a Chevy Malibu when the car crossed the centerline of the roadway near Road C and Highway 50. The vehicle was struck by an oncoming SUV and pushed sideways. A minivan traveling in the opposite direction then struck the vehicle.

Nichole Gibbons, 31, of Wichita, and her 11-year-old son were both killed in the crash.

The driver of the minivan, a 49-year-old male, was transported to an area hospital with injuries. The two occupants in the SUV refused treatment.
