News: Leavenworth man seriously injured after struck by hit-and-run driver

ST. JOSEPH, MO – A man was seriously injured after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash, and then struck by a separate driver on I-29 Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two occupants in a Chevrolet Silverado were traveling northbound on I-29 near milepost 42 when the driver traveled into the median on the interstate and hit a barrier.

John C. Cheatham, 57, of Leavenworth got out of the moving vehicle and landed in the passing lane of I-29. He was struck by a driver headed northbound. The driver continued on without stopping.

He was taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with serious injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 40-year-old Joshua R. Lane, was not injured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
