News: Kansas Highway Patrol investigating fatal Topeka crash, 2 killed
TOPEKA, KS – Two people were killed in a head-on collision on K-4 near NE 31st St. on Monday afternoon.
According to WIBW, 61-year-old Thomas Mika was traveling on NB K-4 when his pickup traveled off the road. Mika overcorrected the vehicle causing it to return to the highway, travel into the southbound lanes, and hit an SUV around 3:45 p.m.
Mika was thrown from his vehicle and killed in the crash. The driver of the SUV, 73-year-old Gerald Counter, was also killed in the accident.
A passenger in the SUV, 58-year-old Daniel Starkweather, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
