News: One child killed, four people hospitalized when police chase ends with crash
NIXA, MO – A high speed chase ended in a crash that killed one child and put four other people in the hospital in Christian County Wednesday night.
KY3 reports that the crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. 160 and Northview when a Dodge Charger fleeing from police ran a red light and struck the side of a minivan.
A 9-year-old boy in the minivan was killed in the crash. The driver and a 12-year-old passenger in that minivan were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Charger, a 16-year-old male from Nixa, was hospitalized with serious injuries. An 18-year-old in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The Charger was being pursued from near the Route J and 17th Street intersection in Ozark for erratic driving.
The chase occurred over several streets and highways with the driver reaching speeds reported to be over 100 MPH. Police intervention included the unsuccessful use of a spike strip to end the chase.
Impairment is suspected as a factor in the accident.
No criminal charges have been reported at the time of this writing.
